The Thrilling Adventure Hour is an old time radio show with some modern twists performed on stage monthly at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles. It includes fake commercials, music and three segments/serials and it is incredibly funny. There are regular players and there are guest performers. Last night’s guests included Thomas Lennon, Jenny Wade, Jason Ritter, Keegan-Michael Key, Linda Cardellini, David Anders, Ben McKenzie and Elizabeth Reaser. The first two segments were space westerns that had some overlapping characters. The last segment was Beyond Belief and that was the one that Elizabeth was in. In Beyond Belief, two high class drunks wander into a curiosity shop to buy an original bottle of rum. The problem with this odd store is that once you buy something you are a trapped there forever. Elizabeth’s character, Gretel, bought a pair ballet slippers to wear to a ballet slipper party, thrown by a friend who throws very specific parties, she was turned into a ballerina (or as she suspects, possibly a toy) and has been in the store ever since. The overall piece was hysterical and Elizabeth’s performance was incredibly amusing and endearing. It was recorded for podcast so I’ll let you listen to it to hear the whole thing when it comes out.
Having seen Elizabeth on stage twice now, I hope we get to see her do more theater. She is a wonderful stage performer.
Afterwards, I got a chance to chat with Elizabeth a little bit. It was her second time doing the show and she really enjoys it. She asked me if I wanted to take a picture to post to “Oh My Carlisle?” I was surprised and thought it was so sweet that she asked. I wasn’t planning to, but I had my camera in my bag so why not? J Then she said, “I love Oh My Carlisle!” and I was thinking, “I need that for my ringtone.”
It was a great night and had so much fun hanging out with my dear friend, Anna. Thanks for coming along for the Thrilling Adventure!
